Is Stargate Universe Getting Better?
I’ve just finished watching Divided, Faith, and Human. I still haven’t seen Space, but I have watched every other episode to date. I believe these two episodes have shown the series has turned a corner. Both of these episodes had energy I often found missing in previous episodes (with the glaring exception of Time, which was wonderful and highly recommended).
Maybe my break from the show has helped, but it seems fresher somehow. There’s still a focus on character development, but plot is becoming a much more important part of each episode. Too much character too early on might have been responsible for too slow world-building. With a science-fiction show, world-building is what most of us viewers want, well before we start learning so much about the characters.
The writers of Stargate Universe seem to have made a risky choice to do things backward. My opinion is that it might not have been the best choice, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to pay off in the end. In fact, I hope it does.
Do I think Stargate Universe is getting better? Actually, I do. Lost is pretty darn good.
